One of the earlier brushes, as recollection would have it, I ordered from OAS. Why? I suppose it was within my "greenhorn" purview, despite my years of westernized watercolor experience; and the accoutrements, trappings, etc., which one collects over time, (be it trial by fire or error).
Despite Asian [Chinese] Brush Paintings, "seemingly similar" artistic intentions...it wasn't beyond me to act as though: RIGHT! I will need this, that, these or those...or like the now retired profession I physically couldn't endure anymore Neurosurgical First-Assistant Practitioner...meaning to say, "I will need one of everything", for the right tool/instrument can NEVER be understated, one-without, potentially helped by....as it were.
I CAN'T STATE THIS MORE MATER-OF-FACTLY or with such conviction. The 'Double Happiness' SMALL brush, while at first a "thingamabob". Sooner or later became my perfect weapon for: Gong-bi Realness. Fine lines became a treat. A combination brush, IMO, that exceeded my expectations, as far as stiff yet soft, push and pull, yin and yang, etc.
I fact, depending on the subject matters size...it ALSO acted as the perfect carrier for water amount and equal measures for various tones in carbon, be it pine soot or rapeseed, and for layer(s) of chinese chip or Marie's Chinese watercolor tubes, or best for the skilled artistic practitioner - homemade powdered colors (Japans best), glue, etc.
Long winded comments, but when I love something as much as this brush...I can't help myself. TRUST ME - GONG-BI or fineline & fill are synonymous with double Happiness SMALL.
