Chestnuts by Johnson Su-sing Chow

This wonderful Chestnuts painting by Johnson Su-sing Chow is featured in his book Vegetables, Fruits, Insects and Aquatic Life Paintings: V2 Fruits.

One of my early childhood memories is the smell of chestnuts being boiled and sold on the streets of Taiwan. It was always a distinctively pleasant smell that I would associate with the outdoor markets in Asia. It is also one of those smells that is completely in harmony with the creamy nutty taste of chestnuts.
